Today marks the passing of ten years since my dad left this world to reunite with my mom. Even though a decade has passed, his presence lingers in the memories that flood my mind - memories of laughter, lessons learned, and moments shared.
My dad was more than just a father; he was a pillar of strength, a beacon of wisdom, and a model of neighborly love. His warm smile and comforting embrace remain etched in my heart, along with his belief in always looking for the good in others. Whether he was picking up a hitchhiker, helping a stranger on the side of the road, or dropping everything to assist a friend, he exemplified what it meant to be the bigger person.
One of his greatest gifts to me was his ability to turn everyday moments into profound life lessons. From instilling the value of hard work to emphasizing the importance of kindness, his words of wisdom continue to shape my journey long after his departure.
Some of my most cherished memories with my dad revolve around simple adventures - a trip to the dump or a cross-country road trip. It wasn’t about the destination; it was about the journey. I recall fighting with my brothers for the chance to wake up at dawn to go fishing or his comforting presence when I fell ill, always returning home with ice cream.
Though my dad may no longer walk beside us, his legacy endures in the memories we shared, the lessons he imparted, and the values he instilled. I remember the day my mom, his soul-mate, passed away, and amidst his grief, he taught me a lesson I'll never forget - to prioritize helping others in need, for their struggles may outweigh our own. Instead of staying home, he chose to help his neighbor who was having an electrical “at that moment their need was greater than mine.”
While I may no longer hear his voice or feel his touch, I carry his spirit within me, a reminder that life is precious, and it's our choices that define its richness. So here's to you, Dad, wherever you may be. Thank you for everything. You are loved, you are missed, and you will forever hold a special place in my heart.
