Last week, we took our grand-baby to the aquarium, a visit that was as much about building memories as it was about being reminded to see the world through a child's eyes. Each exhibit, each fish, turtle, and sea creature we encountered, he greeted with his adorable two-year-old voice: "Hi fish," "Hi turtle." His awe was palpable and infectious.
Although I've seen these fish before and have visited numerous aquariums—including this one—it felt brand new. His excitement for the creatures he'd never seen before ignited a sense of anticipation and joy in me. Where I might have rushed through the exhibits, he stopped, curious and filled with wonder.
He was thrilled to make friends with the fish and join in the laughter of other kids. Even the posters of sharks and the floor decals of jellyfish amazed him. He eagerly pushed buttons to see what they did, each discovery a small triumph.
This experience reminded me that life's most beautiful moments are often the simplest ones. By slowing down and appreciating these small wonders, I was able to recapture the joy and wonder of seeing beauty in every moment.
I hope everyone has the opportunity to see the world through the eyes of a two-year old. To pause, appreciate, and feel the same sense of wonder and excitement that children do. After all, the world is an awe-inspiring place, and through a child's eyes, we can learn to see the magic in the everyday once again.
